VEHICLES

This compendium will compile all vehicles from the project for easy reference.  It will initially separate them by broad categories and may later list them under faction/organization.

SPACECRAFT

Vehicles capable of making space voyages.

The Clairvoyant.  Interstellar/Intergalactic Heavy Gunship
A heavily modified/upgraded Typhus 77 series light cargo
ship from Intranova Technologies.  Privately owned by Captain Katyah Carter - Militarized and inducted into the Nomad Earth empire's forward scouting program.  A crew of 100 assigned aboard the ship includes both personal and military employees.

AIRCRAFT

Vehicles capable of flying within planetary atmospheres.

LAND VEHICLES

Vehicles that travel on land.

The Clairvoyant

Exploratory Interstellar/Intergalactic Star Ship

Ship Owner: Captain Katyah Carter

Privately Militarized and inducted into the Nomad Earth empire's forward scouting program.
The Clairvoyant was designed by Alex KypcaHT.deviantart.com

This Typhus 77 series ship was originally purchased from the manufacturer, Intranova Technologies, as an interstellar light cargo transport.  Katyah Carter had no interest in pursuing a life of political power as was her birthright.  With other plans for her life, she purchased the ship and started her own transport company which serviced the higher echelons of society.  Her family prestige allowed her access to exclusive clientele and she amassed a small fortune in short time.
She began to upgrade the Typhus 77.  During the course of two years, the value of her ship had more than tripled.  It's abilities far surpassed those of a stock model and the requirements of a cargo ship.  With a desire to become something better in life, Katyah began her search for bigger challenges.  When the empire announced it would be offering militarization to privately owned star ships, she seized the opportunity and began her career as a Captain in the Nomad Earth military.
Militarized star ships are authorized to carry far more fire power than ships in the private sector.  Substantial upgrades where made to the ships weaponry but the largest upgrade undergone was the reclassification from interstellar to intergalactic.  Engine capacity was increased, a Superlight NomaTech Hyperdrive was installed, and the ship was fitted with the most powerful energy efficient damage shields available.  Now that the ship was capable of traveling through the rarified plasma known as the IGM (intergalactic medium) that makes up the space between galaxies in a cluster, it was classified as military worthy and a contingent of soldiers were placed under Captain Carter's command..
Assigned to the empire's forward scout program and tasked with discovering new worlds and systems full of resources, the ship was named the "Clairvoyant".

Crew capacity: 100-115
Vehicles on Board:  Two 4 wheeled all terrain weaponized vehicles.  One 6 passenger weaponized air ship.  10 personal speed bikes.

Worlds

A growing catalog of planets and systems

Message to artists:  Many of these planets and systems are still in need of artwork.  Please feel free to submit your work to the project.

Planets

Artwork by Chris Kapp

God Planet

(Native home of the Dreamers, occupied by the Luscent who serve as guardians.  The entity in our universe from which all else came into being.  Unlike any other body of the universe, the God Planet has a unique shape and form.  The planet is made up of several floating continents and a multitude of islands.  These bodies of land are surrounded by a circular “bubble” of atmosphere which, from space, gives them the appearance of being surrounded by a force field.)

Artwork by Gabriel Gajdoš

Krayt

(Native home of the Kraytis, a species with several feline traits.  Located in the Artemisia System.  Absorbed into the Nomad Earth empire.  A jungle planet with advanced eco-friendly technology)

Artwork by Gabriel Gajdoš

  Earth

(uninhabitable,  approx: 3050 AD after being ravaged by natural disasters.  Due to impending catastrophic natural disasters, the eruption of Yellowstone, the Earth's populace initiated a mass exodus and formed the Nomadic Earth empire.  Years later when the disaster struck, the Earth  experienced a chain reaction of eruptions and ensuing chaos to devastating effect. It is now a churning mass of tectonic plates seething with volcanic activity and it is completely unstable.

Mars

(dead planet, completely industrialized surface, severely mined out for resources used in assembling massive space fleets.)

Phelion Helios Magna

(a star planet, PhelionHM is a planet imbued with ether from the stars.  It is located in a system which contains more stars than any other system in the universe.  It was the birth home of the Luscent race but is currently uninhabited.  When the Luscent departed to relocated to the God Planet, they left behind all of their cities which are being maintained by autonomous robotic beings.)

Artwork by Gabriel Gajdoš

Mezzanine

A spaceport planet that belongs to the Ceznir system.  It is the only habitable planet in the system and is operated by the Nomad Earth Empire as a trade/export/resupply destination.  Mezzanine acts as a gateway for travel between two important Empire systems.  It is an intermediate destination, its namesake.

Development

So here's what's going on in the development of Quantum: Origins

 UPDATE: 7 May 2013
We have some major players on the table with us now.  Joining us as my second in command is my good buddy and fellow artist Chris Kapp.  He will be helping me with many creative aspects of the Quantum: Origins universe and I'm both happy and lucky to have him on board.  Chris stepped it up to an epic scale with the design work for the God Planet, an important part of our universe.

Also joining us as space art contributors are Gabriel Gajdoš and Eskhata. Both of these guys are amazing at what they do and we're extremely happy to have their support.

Much of the artwork we shared earlier that was a work in progress has been completed and yet more is on the way.  Not only am I working closely with 4 more artists on their current creations, the Art Contest has already yielded some very nice submissions.  One of them has been added to a character profile already since I feel like it was a fantastic representation.
If you visit the Worlds section of the Encyclopedia on the site, you will find new creations and applications of some of the awesome artwork that has been submitted.  I recommend checking that regularly and draw from the inspiration these planets and systems can give towards your artwork.
Stay tuned for more!

Beginning with this blog site, I've begun to put a lot more work into the project.  Over the last two weeks we've seen illustrations and paintings from multiple guest artists with even more people getting involved over time.  You'll find a lot of great new artwork as the result of this like this painting by Danillovesfood of deviantART.  There are currently several other works of art in progress that I know of and probably others that haven't notified me yet.

In addition to this news, I am also pleased to announce that a prestigious artist is aboard to design the star ship Clairvoyant.  The Clairvoyant is a vital part of our story and it was important that it find a skilled designer to give it a look that would be appreciated by all fans and inspire perhaps a cult following.  You can read more about this over at this blog entry titled The Making of The Clairvoyant - Forward Scout Star Ship - Captain Katyah Carter.

The next big thing in development news is that we're running a month long Art Contest on DeviantART which we expect will have hundreds of participants.  We're giving away some stellar prizes and we hope that we will see loads of Quantum: Origins artwork and build a larger audience for the project.  We would also like to find some enthusiastic contributors with this contest who would enjoy helping us build this universe.  Visit the Contest Page

Races

You are currently viewing the Race Compendium

Humans

The human species escaped Earth in a mass exodus in the year 3020 AD due to catastrophic circumstances.   The neighboring colonized planet of Mars was not capable of supporting the entire population and thus the human race took to space as a nomadic empire.  This began a new age which was designated as "EA" after the Norse "etter avgang".  (See more on the Exodus)

Kraytis

A humanoid species with some feline aspects.  The Kraytis are not furry as feline mammals are but possess the padded paw prints on the palms of their human-like hands, sharp canines, reflective eyes, and some have cat-like patterns on their skin akin to tiger stripes or leopard spots.  The kraytis, encountered in the NE Empire's conquests, were fairly quick to align themselves with the empire.  They were a technologically advanced race who were tragically inundated with species endangering cultures.  Had the empire not arrived when it did, the kraytis would have been extinct within a few generations.

Luscent

The "Starborn".  The Luscent are another humanoid race first encountered on the God Planet.  They are one of the oldest species in the universe and shrouded in mystery.  Residing on the God Planet, they keep watch over the Dreamers and have done so for 3 millennia.  The Luscent left their homeworld on a star after their elder, the "Starsword", foretold the end of existence.  The only way the unraveling of the universe could be prevented was through a life dedicated to protecting the God Planet.  The Luscent are taller than humans by and average 1 to 2 feet.  They are dark of skin with gray tint and have variety of bright hair colors ranging from pink to blue.  The Luscent possess a magic which comes from the stars, the ether of the universe.

Dreamers

Dreamers are native to the God Planet.  Their magic is the power of creation through dreams and their race is protected by the full military force of the Luscent.  In the interest of protecting story plots, little will be divulged of their full nature.

The Making of The Clairvoyant - Forward Scout Star Ship - Captain Katyah Carter

The most important space craft in the story of the Quantum: Origins universe is the Clairvoyant, piloted by Captain Katyah Carter.  It is aboard this space craft that the majority of the protagonists from my story travel about the universe.  In order to create a remarkable and memorable star ship that will be capable of garnering fans from the sci-fi genre, I've enlisted the help of Russian artist Alex "KypcaHT" from deviantart (KypcaHT.deviantart.com).  Alex is creating the Clairvoyant in multiple angle sketches and will be building the space craft in Sketchup to provide a 3D model.

The Current level of progression is shown here with previous images and versions listed in ascending order below:

Clairvoyant - 2nd version sketch by Alex - http://kypcaht.deviantart.com/
Clairvoyant - 1st sketch by Alex - http://kypcaht.deviantart.com/

The second sketch version features extended 'leg thrusters' over the first sketch.  The extension gives the Clairvoyant a broader, more menacing and powerful look and approves upon the overall aesthetics of the look.

The first sketch of the Clairvoyant develops a monster of a ship, 14 modern car lengths long with obvious military power evident in the large weaponry it features.  The bridge also offers a massive multistory view to space which was one of my main requests in the design of the ship.

The God Planet

Artwork by Chris Kapp
The entity in our universe from which all else came into being.
Unlike any other body of the universe, the God Planet has a unique shape and form.
The planet is made up of several floating continents and a multitude of islands.  These bodies of land are surrounded by a circular “bubble” of atmosphere which, from space, gives them the appearance of being surrounded by a force field.

The main continents find themselves located at different altitudes.  All of the continents feature different climates.  The continent lowest in altitude is hot, dry, and arid with deserts.  Continents higher up are considered “moderate”.  One of these continents is mostly dry yet still features forests and plateaus.  Further up there’s another continent with a moderate climate which is more humid and features regular rain fall and a vast sea.  This is Dolsia Main.  The next land mass is tropical with dense jungles and lots of precipitation.  From here, many waterfalls pour from all around the continent and offer life giving water and precipitation to the continents below.  A small continent high above the jungles is known for it beautiful but hazardous tundra.  The highest continent of the God Planet is an arctic mountain range.  Most of the land here is twisted and thrusting ever upwards due to harsh freezing temperatures.

List of Continents
  • Kretaeris - Arctic mountain ranges with twisted, up thrusting features due to harsh freezing temperatures.
    Kretaeris by Chris Kapp
  • Artaeris - Cold yet starkly beautiful tundra.
  • Protus - Tropical dense jungle, the continent is laced with rivers and waterfalls.  Many of these tumble off the edge of the continent below.  Also features a mountain range that showcases beautiful water falls .
  • Dolsia Main - A moderate/humid climate.  The largest continent.  Half of it is covered in water and is known as the Vastsea.  Beyond the sheer cliff edges that line the coast, there are large sweeping forests and open plains covering rolling hills.  There is also one large river and several tributaries.
  • Dolsia Minor - A moderate/dry terrain.  Short, stout trees and tough grasses make up most of the foliage on this continent.  The terrain features many high plateaus that look out on a landscape scarred with canyons created by seasonal flood rains.  Much of the terrain here is an orange or red color and many of the flowering plants have blue petals - a bizarre contrast.
  • Karsis - Vast, arid desert and great dune seas.  The second largest continent

Amidst all 6 of the continents, there are also countless smaller islands of various formations.

The continents and the islands all float through rotations within the God Planet’s atmosphere.  They do not orbit any particular body.  They simply travel about on a predetermined path that does not allow them to collide.  To put this into perspective:  during one cycle (more to follow on cycles), the jungle continent may find itself hanging above a moderate continent but the following cycle there could be no other continents below it all the way down to the desert continent.  Natives are able to track the movement of the continents and calendar systems are in use to measure the cycles and the passage of time.

Atmosphere:  The atmosphere is unique here.  To imagine it, picture a space seen, starry background and everything.  Even distant nebulae.  Now you have continents floating in front of you, stacked high and moving about on their own rotations.  Around all of this, there is a perfectly circular bubble, force field looking atmosphere.  It could be similar to one of those clear bouncy balls that have interesting things inside that make them so pretty.  Well this atmosphere also produces it’s own light and regulates the temperature for the God Planet.  Along the equatorial region, there is a strong, beautiful light on the outer edges of the atmosphere that travels circles around the planet.  This light puts off heat that is essential for life on the planet. The light makes a full revolution around the equatorial region of the planet which is called a cycle (or a half day).  Closer to the end of the cycle, the light begins to sink down to the lower regions.  Here it gets closer to the desert continent, creating night for all of the continents above and a harsh unforgiving new day for the desert continent below.  It will complete it’s cycle moving slower around the planet at the sub-equatorial level before slowly rising back up to start a new “day” where it began the day before at the equator.  This procession of the “light” (which will probably be referred to as The Son) allows no nighttime for the desert continent.  It creates a sort of twilight for other lower continents and true darkness and nighttime for the Moderate Humid continent and above.  The arctic continent never receives much sunlight.  On the High Cycle (daytime) it experiences the twilight and on Low Cycle (nighttime) it is pitch black.

Precipitation on the God Planet sometimes creates unique and stunningly beautiful cloud formations that can even hover the outer edges of the atmosphere before being swept up in a thermal tunnel and drifting off to fall as rain on the tropical continent.  Combined with the unusual nature of The Son on the God Planet, the skies are often painted in striking colors.

Artists Needed

The Quantum: Origins story world is larger than I can paint alone.  So many creations are in need of guest artists to bring them to life.  Here I've composed a list of creations that are available for concept art.  If there is anything here that inspires you, please feel free to paint/create it and there's a very good chance your work will forever become part of our universe.  Any artwork you provide will forever give credit to you as the artist no matter where the art is posted or published.

Jarrek, Sentinel of The Watch

Jarreck, Sentinel of the Watch

Role in Story: Antagonist. Sentinel assigned to the Clairvoyant. Spies and reports their activities, causing many misfortunes and loads of trouble for the crew.

Occupation: Sentinel of the Watch, NE Empire. Assigned to the Clairvoyant.

Physical Description:
Race: Human (Genetically Modified)
Age: ? Standard Years (appears to be approx: 30)
Height: 6 ft 2 inches / 187.96 cm
Weight: 202 lbs / 91.63 kg

Personality/Skills:

Habits/Mannerisms:

Background: Sentinels are each assigned to a separate ship in the great fleet of the Nomad Earth Empire. They are the Witnesses, the law keepers, and are feared even among their own people. Their allegiance belongs strictly to The Watch for whom they provide intelligence and reconnaissance. Though essentially, they fall under the command of the captain of the ship they are assigned to, they have the authority to trump the orders of the ship captain whenever they deem the captain's orders are detrimental to The Watch, and thus, the Empire. Sentinels generally do not communicate overly much with the other inhabitants of the ships they are assigned to and are therefore often treated as spies and dangerous to be around.
They are genetically enhanced humans with extra and unusual muscle groups. Sentinels posses finely honed combat skills are are more than a match for a platoon of infantry soldiers. At their disposal, they have the use of a portable version of the Blackhole Technology. This technology allows them to store weapons, ammunition, survival gear, and various other supplies in a small black hole to which they have access through a device located at their wrist. The Watch also maintains a black hole corridor through which all of it's agents may travel back to the fleet command ship. This corridor leads from wherever the Sentinel is, back to the fleet ship but can only return it's traveler back to it's original destination where a return beacon is in place. The corridor does not allow others to travel from the command ship to the Sentinel's location at a remote destination.

Internal Conflicts:

External Conflicts: Finds Captain Carter’s command in direct opposition to the Empire and reports her activities back to the fleet. Attempts to wrest command of the Clairvoyant from her.

The Scene:
A fleet ship of The Watch is seen here, stationed in the Starfire Nebula. This nebula is blazing hot and only ships equipped with state of the art shields can withstand the voracious appetites of the birthing star. A Sentinel of The Watch (Jarreck) is pictured walking down a hall way where the floors reflect the ferocity of the nebula outside, en-route to meet with his commanding officer.

Personality/Skills: The Luscent are born of the stars, inherently able to harness the power of the stars in various ways. Using magically crafted items, they are able to materialize weapons and armor from starforce. Some Luscent are exceptionally attuned to the starforce and are able to use its magic as a means of traveling short distances at such incredible speeds in bursts that they appear to be teleporting. Darian is one such Luscent. Very skilled in the martial arts, Darian is a master with forceblades and possesses great stamina and agility. Drawing their life force from the stars, it is detrimental to the Luscent's health if kept away from starlight for too long. Additionally, adverse weather conditions that block out the light from the sun or stars will seriously hamper their innate abilities.

Notes: Discovered the NE invasion on the Vast Sea of Dolsia Main
Artwork by Jason Dement (jsundmint.deviantart.com)

She could hear them "closing the net" down below. Above the sound of the crashing tide and the raucous call of the seabirds, the constant hum of their hoverlight engines found crevices in the face of the rock. These smallest of echos told her that they had not given up their search for her. She was lucky to have noticed their arrival in the distance before they'd come upon her. On the Vastsea, it was unusual for anything to shadow the sparkle of the waters. Here on Dolsia Main, the floating continent that is home to the Vastsea, light is omnidirectional, provided by the composition of the Godplanet's unique atmosphere. A shadow at sea meant someone was out there.

The invading army of the Nomadic Earth Empire had captured a few of the lower barren continents, and until now, they had made no move to venture upwards into the rest of the realm. Holding no disillusions as to their purpose, Nahlia had left her Zessnir bike on the shore below and took to the cliffs. The only way out by vehicle would have carried her straight into captivity. They had certainly come upon her bike by now, engine still warm from her last ride, and would be searching relentlessly for her.

She hardly noticed the pain in her fingers, the muscles cramped from a day of riding now forced into the deadly climb. She was no stranger to the exertion, fierce warrior of the Luscent. And so it was, today the humans had finally made their move.

"The Starsword must hear of this. After millennia in wait, we now see the threat that brought our people here to the Godplanet. We must protect the Dreamers."

Her conscience reminding her of the significance of her situation, Nahlia redoubled her efforts. She would not be captured. Their nets would close empty until they gave off chase for she would not fail her people. No, she would not fail to protect the very existence of the universe.

Sergeant Veronika Winters, LEG Soldier

Veronika Winters, Sergeant

Role in Story: Crew Member of the Clairvoyant

Occupation: Sergeant, LEG soldier of the NE empire. Crew of the Clairvoyant, Squad Leader

Physical Description:
Race: Human
Age: 27 Standard Years
Height: 5 ft 6 inches / 167.64 cm
Weight: 111 lbs / 50.35 kg

Personality/Skills: Skilled at hand to hand combat, firearms, vehicles, and survival. Extremely resilient, Sergent Winters has never gone to sick call a day in her career. She has a dominating personality which makes her a great leader who is easy to follow. Her off duty hobby of acrobatics provides her with an arsenal of tricks to use in combat. Veronika does not take instruction from anyone outside her chain of command. She is a weak swimmer. The complexities of supernatural things, the fundamentals of magic, and most things that are ethereal in substance like relationships all escape her comprehension.

Habits/Mannerisms: She flaunts her sexuality, her well toned body and assets, frequently. She will often use blunt humor or make graphic statements to keep her companions off balance... but is this a disguise for some weakness she hides?

Artwork by Jason Dement (jsundmint.deviantart.com)
They’d been on a severed leash for months now. The captain had mentioned something about “drifting” being a new fascination among those choosing The Empire’s path of conquest throughout the universe. She didn’t quiet understand what that was supposed to mean. For as far back as she could remember the Nomad Earth Empire had adhered to a strict code of space travel. Systematically eliminating the other cultures who posed a threat to The Empire’s safety, they would confiscate all the resources of their worlds before taking back to space to continue what seemed to be a never ending quest for galactic domination. This new “drifting” strategy the Captain had not cared to elaborate on struck Sergent Winters as a disturbing change of protocol. She hated changes. Things should stay the way they’ve always been with thorough, well thought out rules and procedures to ensure that a soldier like herself always knew what her mission was and exactly how to complete it. Questions were dangerous. Well these kinds were. And she found herself asking questions in abundance. She kept her questions to herself of course. It wouldn’t do for her soldiers to make note of her uncertainty. What was it about this new destination looming before her in the porthole window that made her skin crawl so? Just yesterday she would have traded an entire quarter’s pay for a fight. Anything to rid herself of the lethargy that had settled like a fog over the crew during the past month. The not knowing made her feel like a child again. An unfamiliar feeling indeed… insecure? She was rotting on this ship. Sergent Winters had never been insecure.
“Let’s get this damned heap on the ground already!”
The others turned at her outburst but she didn’t notice. She was lost in her thoughts again.
